Be Kind to Me

What a journey we have all been on recently.  What a shock to have the patterns and rhythms of our lives so completely changed and arrested.

At first, there was a strange euphoria with a creative release of hundreds of memes, jokes and videos flying around social media.  I must admit that those kept me laughing and sane in those first few weeks of lock down.

Then there was a slow coming down off that adrenalin as the reality of not leaving our homes kicked in; living with partners 24/7, living with children 24/7, being at home surrounded by our ‘stuff’.  Many took this time to clear out lofts, cupboards, old stuff that no longer served; physically and metaphorically ‘clearing out’.  We are all attached to our belongings energetically, so the more we have, the more energy is expended by having it.  That’s why having a good clear out and a clean makes you feel energised.

And four months on, we are all on the CoronaCoaster of highs and lows.  Men and women alike are laughing one day and crying the next.  It’s easy to underestimate what we have been through and what we are going through.  Our lives have been turned upside-down, with many working from home for the first time, no longer spending hours commuting, the result being we have extra energy.  Many have taken up physical activities for the first time.  Many have made major life decisions; to leave partners, to change career, to move house or location, become clearer about which relationships are important and which have now come to an end.

This is huge upheaval.  We are suffering from shock, in some cases post traumatic stress, and it is easy to underestimate the effect this has had on us.  It is no wonder that we are all exhausted, tired of talking about the virus, tired of having to make decisions every day, tired of the chaos, crying one day, laughing the next.

We need to take care of and love ourselves, take time, be kind to ourselves, to take time do what makes us happy every day.  Write on pieces of paper or stones the things that you love to do and put them in a jar.  Every day, choose something to do for just one hour.  Take time for you.

Write a note and put it somewhere where you will see it:
