Space Clearing

Clearing your house and tidying your space has become fashionable lately, and for good reason.  Our society is based on urging us to buy new things; new clothes, new cars, new, new, new.  We say over and over, ‘where does all this stuff come from?’ as if we have no part in it’s appearance!  Everything we watch programmes us to spend.  Advertising, TV, social media tell us that we are somehow diminished if we are not wearing new clothes, that this car will make us feel like we are driving through mountains, free, affluent, in control.  Companies spend millions on developing subliminal messages.  Try taking a step back next time you are online or in the shops and looking at the latest trend and see how we are manipulated to spend.  Have the thought ‘do I really need this?’.  Unsubscribe from all those emails.

A very powerful space clearing exercise is to empty your wardrobe and put everything in a pile.  Only hang up the clothes that you actually love and give the rest to someone who would love them, or hold a clothes swap in your house with a group of friends.  It’s such a great way to recycle and reuse and also to let go of your old stuff.    Find a local Repair Café to help you to mend items you love.  There are many creative sewing techniques and patches to make them good again.

We are energetically attached to everything we own, so imagine how draining it is for our sub-conscious to have a loft full or crammed cupboards and wardrobes and a little bit of us attached to everything.  That energy can be from decades ago, energy that no longer serves us but still nags at us without us knowing.  For instance, I had a box full of my A level notes for a subject I didn’t like, did no work for and just scraped a pass in the exam.  I found those notes 10 years later.  They had been sitting in my loft gathering dust.  I realised that it was time to let go; why would I want to keep those painful memories in my space?  Throwing them into the bin I felt such relief.  Try space clearing to bring some balance to your life.

What can you do this week to clear your space?

  • Try a Marie Kondo clothes organisation; fold your clothes so you can see them in your drawers, recycle what you don’t love
  • Clear a kitchen cupboard or two – all those gadgets you’ve only used once
  • Spring clean a room – skirting boards, book cases, clean the curtains. Reorganise and only replace what you love

Have fun clearing!
